2012 Fort Edmonton Camp

The Fort Edmonton Camp is introductory camp for 3rd year Cubs and new Scouts.  This is a fun camp full of activities from Archery, capture the flag, trebuchets, wide games, wood carving, defend the fort, gold panning, geocaching, rope making, leather working and my personal favourite JOTT.  There is a campfire celebration, food challenge, Scout Truck Racing, silk screening  and badge trading.  This camp is held every year at the Fort Edmonton Park.

2012 Spring Bottle Drive

I would like to thank everyone who came out and helped out on our 2012 Spring Bottle Drive. It was cold and wet but we collected a ton of bottles for our group and lots of food donations for the Edmonton Food Bank.  The money raised from the bottles goes towards funding the great programs our Leaders and Parents help put together.

The Scouts and a few Cubs took the food donations to the University Fire Station No. 3 and were invited in for a quick tour.  We saw the different types of trucks our Fire Fighters use for different emergencies, saw the different types of tools that they use and watch the our them practice knot tying exercise and practice their rescue skills.   I would like the thank our City of Edmonton Fire Fighters for taking the time to show our youth what you do and inspiring them.

2012 Alberta Legislature Visit

All Sections of the 24th Parkallen Scouting Group attended a special evening tour of our Legislature. We learnt about our how our government work, how bills as debated and passed and see the great wonders of our Legislative Building.

Our tour was just a few days before the 2012 Alberta Election was called.  Two of our very own leaders took the time to put their names forward for MLA for their respected political parties.   Our Group was very proud of our two leaders for taking the time to get involved in political process and showing our youth the importance of being heard and to vote.
